Model Context Protocol (MCP) Masterclass

What MCP is, why it matters, and how to plug an AI assistant into your notes, files and tools so it reads your context instead of you pasting it. The most technical module; also the one that makes the AI layer click.

What it is

A masterclass on the Model Context Protocol: the standard that lets AI assistants call tools and read data sources. We look at what it is, how the pieces fit (hosts, clients, servers), what’s possible today, and how to connect Claude or another assistant to your Obsidian vault and other systems. Intermediate level. You don’t need to code, but you need to be comfortable editing a config file.

Do this first

Watch it once without touching anything. Then set up one MCP server: the one that gives your AI read access to your vault. Ask it a question about your own notes. That moment is what the whole AI layer was building toward.

If you use the Starter Kit: it ships with MCP support and AI skills. The AI Assistant system documentation shows how the pieces connect. Your master prompt, your voice profile and your notes are now all available to the assistant without copy-paste.
Add servers one at a time. Each one should solve a real annoyance. More servers is not better; the assistant gets confused.

Config files scare you and you’re happy pasting context by hand. Fair. Come back in six months; the tooling keeps getting easier.
