Dev Concepts Volume 2: What Clients Need
Requirements discovery, user-centered design, jobs to be done, UX basics, minimum lovable products, design sprints, and how to write specs people understand. The volume about building the right thing.
What it is
The second volume: understanding what the client or user actually needs before writing a line. Requirements discovery techniques from real projects, user-centered design, Jobs-To-Be-Done, personas and design patterns, minimum lovable products, design sprints, and specifications that prevent misunderstandings.
Where to find it
Bought on Gumroad or the store: your Gumroad library. PDF in the library; updates land in the same place.
Do this first
Read the requirements discovery chapter, then apply one technique to whatever you’re building this week. Even a side project has a “client”: you, three months from now.
Then
The spec-writing chapter. Write one spec for a small feature using its structure. Show it to someone. If they understand it without asking questions, you got it.
Skip it if
You have a product or UX background. Then use it as a shared vocabulary with the developers on your team.
What it leads to
Back to the code, with a better idea of why you’re writing it.
